Launch of CELIS German Chapter at BDI Conference

This week, the first BDI and CELIS German Chapter Investment Screening Conference took place in cooperation with BLOMSTEIN and Hogan Lovells. High-ranking panellists, ranging from members of the German Bundestag, to senior regulators from the EU and Germany to experts from private practice, as well as members of the judiciary met in Berlin. They discussed the current practical challenges and possible strategies for the upcoming reform of the German and European investment screening regulations.

The discussions highlighted the need to balance security interests while preserving an open economy build on free competition. The new proposal for an updated EU Screening Regulation will bring minimum harmonisation in the field – which was largely welcomed -with major implications for national screening regimes.

The conference also marks the launch of the CELIS German Chapter, chaired by Professor Lena Hornkohl and Dr Leonard von Rummel. This adds a valuable platform to the CELIS Institute: Our continuous and trustful dialogue between policymakers, the investment community and academia is now extended to the national level. The CELIS German Chapter aims to develop best practices across all stakeholder groups for a robust and effective investment screening framework in Germany that balances economic and security interests.
